Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-.

The Diego Pavia pick is the one that will follow the Steelers into the fall. They took him 49 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

On value alone, Taaffe makes the weekend a net positive. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In No. 20 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Diego Pavia
A real head-scratcher, Diego Pavia in pick 52 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick78 Rnd3 Austin Barber
A premium they did not need to pay, Austin Barber a notch or two before his time. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick84 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
They robbed the room for Michael Taaffe here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Value with a capital V on Jake Golday in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Nice patience on Jack Endries, who had no business lasting to the 120th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick135 Rnd4 Carson Beck
They barely believed it either: Carson Beck still on the board at the 135th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick159 Rnd5 Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 20 is lovely value for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214 Rnd6 Josh Moten
Josh Moten at slot 214 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick215 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
They paid sticker price for Lee Hunter in the 215th overall pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick224 Rnd7 Amare Campbell
They paid a round early for Amare Campbell in pick 224, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick236 Rnd7 Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
