Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA-
FutureB
The Saints left with their quarterback, and a B to match. The Saints looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Eli Cox at Round 7, Pick 41 regardless, 75 picks early. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Shedeur Sanders gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The Warren value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The veteran additions, Marvin Harrison Jr. chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In pick No. 13 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick56
Rnd2
Bradyn Swinson
Bradyn Swinson at slot 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick62
Rnd2
Darien Porter
Darien Porter in the 62nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
They reached into another round for Hollin Pierce, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick150
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
A big swing on Ajani Cornelius at the 150th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick155
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
By-the-book stuff, Bhayshul Tuten at pick 155 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick213
Rnd6
Dante Trader Jr.
Dante Trader Jr. at the 213th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick231
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
No edge and no loss on Cam Jackson in the 231st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylin Smith. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick256
Rnd7
Andrew Armstrong
This one needs a full-page explanation: Andrew Armstrong in pick No. 256, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick257
Rnd7
Eli Cox
A wild overpay on Eli Cox in No. 257, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
