FutureB+
The Saints fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. Some picks age like wine; Elijah Roberts at the Round 5 slot will need to, sitting 33 spots clear of his grade.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That Parrish pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick 14 they get a security blanket over the middle at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
A quiet steal in the 41st overall pick: Emeka Egbuka for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
A straight-up fair deal on Tate Ratledge at pick No. 71, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick81
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at slot 81 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick97
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at the 97th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119
Rnd4
Kyle McCord
Kyle McCord in pick No. 119 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick131
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Moore a notch or two before his time. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jacob Parrish
Taking Jacob Parrish in No. 139 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick184
Rnd6
Vernon Broughton
No edge and no loss on Vernon Broughton in slot 184; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Good price on Jack Kiser in the 189th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick233
Rnd7
Marcus Yarns
They left a pile of value on the table to take Marcus Yarns this early at Round 7, Pick 17. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick248
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
No drama and no debate, Theo Wease Jr. went about where he belonged in the 248th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick254
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
A tidy little value on LaJohntay Wester in Round 7, Pick 38, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
