The Bears robbed the room for Rivers. Final grade: B+. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Bears, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In pick No. 27 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Value with a capital V on Dillon Thieneman in the 59th pick, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick90
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at pick 90 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jake Golday
They let Jake Golday come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 28. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick106
Rnd4
Caden Curry
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caden Curry in the Round 4 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg slipping to slot 129 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick138
Rnd4
David Oke
David Oke in slot 138 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman at pick 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick144
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
A straight-up fair deal on Chase Roberts at Round 5, Pick 6, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick147
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
They will replay Eric Rivers at the 147th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Albert Regis
Albert Regis at the 149th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick166
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaydn Ott. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick204
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Nothing to complain about; Trey Zuhn III went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick211
Rnd6
Luke Altmyer
Luke Altmyer in pick No. 211 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick227
Rnd7
Ahmaad Moses
No edge and no loss on Ahmaad Moses in pick 227; it is a wash and a sensible one. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick228
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
They paid sticker price for Riley Mahlman in Round 7, Pick 12, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick235
Rnd7
Jacobe Johnson
They took Jacobe Johnson at par in the 235th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick239
Rnd7
Tony Grimes
A clean, defensible pick in No. 239 with a little surplus value in Tony Grimes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Shamar Easter
A slide stopped in slot 241, with Shamar Easter worth more than the price. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick243
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Hall at pick No. 243 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick244
Rnd7
Rueben Owens II
No drama and no debate, Rueben Owens II went about where he belonged in the 244th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
