Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B- to prove it.

The Patriots torched the value chart for Kamran James, taking him 52 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
Fair-plus on Chris Brazzell II, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Michael Taaffe
They read the board right and Michael Taaffe was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 31. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick95 Rnd3 Julian Neal
Julian Neal is a better player than pick No. 95 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick125 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick131 Rnd4 Kage Casey
They paid sticker price for Kage Casey in slot 131, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jaydn Ott
A tidy little value on Jaydn Ott in the 169th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick189 Rnd6 Miles Kitselman
Miles Kitselman in Round 6, Pick 10 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Pick200 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
By-the-book stuff, Trey Zuhn III at slot 200 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207 Rnd6 De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling at No. 207 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210 Rnd6 Kamran James
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kamran James in the 210th overall pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247 Rnd7 Micah Morris
No edge and no loss on Micah Morris in pick 247; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
