FutureA+
Larceny in the 107th overall pick lands the Browns a B+, Bernard and all. The Browns did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Germie Bernard fell into the Round 4 slot.
Reaching for Rucci left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 30th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick39
Rnd2
Caleb Lomu
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caleb Lomu at pick No. 39. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick60
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Taking Emmanuel Pregnon in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
They liked Zachariah Branch enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 70. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at the 94th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick107
Rnd4
Germie Bernard
They robbed the room for Germie Bernard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick108
Rnd4
Dani Dennis-Sutton
They will replay Dani Dennis-Sutton at No. 108 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick126
Rnd4
Logan Jones
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Logan Jones. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kage Casey
By-the-book stuff, Kage Casey at No. 139 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in slot 144 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick147
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 147 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204
Rnd6
Nolan Rucci
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nolan Rucci in pick 204, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick248
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick250
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
Will Kacmarek at Round 7, Pick 34 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
