Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Steelers.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Steelers would have aced it. Cade Klubnik at pick 52 is 42 spots clear of where he belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Neal to cover a lot of smaller sins.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Gennings Dunker
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick52 Rnd2 Cade Klubnik
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cade Klubnik well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick78 Rnd3 Antonio Williams
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Antonio Williams in the 78th overall pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick84 Rnd3 Max Klare
Taking Max Klare in pick 84 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick99 Rnd3 Julian Neal
They robbed the room for Julian Neal here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120 Rnd4 C.J. Fite
A quiet steal in the 120th pick: C.J. Fite for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick135 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
The board had Jalon Kilgore higher than the 135th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick159 Rnd5 Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick214 Rnd6 Sawyer Robertson
They let Sawyer Robertson come to them and pounced at slot 214. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215 Rnd6 Rasheem Biles
A straight-up fair deal on Rasheem Biles at pick 215, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick224 Rnd7 Roderick Kearney
A big swing on Roderick Kearney at Round 7, Pick 8, well ahead of any board in the building. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick236 Rnd7 Bryce Foster
No edge and no loss on Bryce Foster in No. 236; it is a wash and a sensible one. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
