Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureA-
The Raiders answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: B+. Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Neal pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Lomu lower, and that gap is the story.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick 2 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick20
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In the 20th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
CJ Allen
They took CJ Allen at par in No. 36, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick67
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A tidy little value on A.J. Haulcy in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick102
Rnd4
Julian Neal
Steal is underselling it; Julian Neal at the 102nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick112
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis at slot 112 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis at pick No. 117 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick135
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
No edge and no loss on Mike Washington Jr. in Round 4, Pick 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick176
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
A tidy bit of business in the 176th pick, where Aaron Anderson graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick181
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick219
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
A straight-up fair deal on Tristan Leigh at pick No. 219, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
