Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall

FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Dolphins a B-. It is a puzzling start. The Dolphins had interior defensive lineman to solve and reached instead for Keionte Scott, a cornerback, at the 77th overall pick. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The cost of the Wright reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Thieneman.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick43
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at No. 43 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick47
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They let Dillon Thieneman come to them and pounced at No. 47. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick60
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
Nice patience on D'Angelo Ponds, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 28. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick77
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Keionte Scott in pick 77 leaves interior defensive lineman for later.
Pick79
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the 79th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Devin Moore
A curious use of the 87th pick. Interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a cornerback in Devin Moore did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
They took Jacob Rodriguez at par in slot 91, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick107
Rnd4
Joe Royer
They did well to land Joe Royer in pick No. 107, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
No drama and no debate, Jaeden Roberts went about where he belonged in the 111th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick116
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Parker Brailsford. It fills a real need, too.
Pick139
Rnd5
Keagen Trost
A reach on Keagen Trost in pick No. 139; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
A big swing on Aamil Wagner at the 149th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick153
Rnd5
Dae'Quan Wright
They reached a country mile for Dae'Quan Wright at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick193
Rnd6
Le'Veon Moss
They paid sticker price for Le'Veon Moss in pick 193, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195
Rnd6
Charles Jagusah
No edge and no loss on Charles Jagusah in slot 195; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick227
Rnd7
Cole Payton
They read the board right and Cole Payton was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 11. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
