Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in pick 125: the Patriots steal Klare and grade out a B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Max Klare slide 70 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse. The dealing was even money, start to finish.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at Round 1, Pick 31 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick63 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Taking Caleb Banks in the 63rd overall pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick95 Rnd3 Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at pick No. 95 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Max Klare
Max Klare in pick 125 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore in No. 131 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Aaron Anderson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick189 Rnd6 Brenen Thompson
You do not let a wide receiver like Brenen Thompson reach the 189th pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick205 Rnd6 Keyshaun Elliott
Fair-plus on Keyshaun Elliott, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick207 Rnd6 Isaiah Nwokobia
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Nwokobia at the 207th pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210 Rnd6 Jimmy Rolder
A tidy little value on Jimmy Rolder in pick 210, a step better than break-even. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick232 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Good price on Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 232, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick247 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
No drama and no debate, J. Michael Sturdivant went about where he belonged in slot 247. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
