FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Cooper Jr.: B+. The Steelers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The Cooper Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Chris Bell
In the 31st overall pick they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick53
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A quiet steal in slot 53: Dillon Thieneman for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick63
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at pick 63 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
The board had Keionte Scott higher than pick No. 76, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. in Round 3, Pick 21 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
They robbed the room for Omar Cooper Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss at slot 121 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in Round 4, Pick 31 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick135
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick159
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
No edge and no loss on Xavier Nwankpa in pick 159; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214
Rnd6
Fernando Carmona
A straight-up fair deal on Fernando Carmona at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick224
Rnd7
PJ Williams
No drama and no debate, PJ Williams went about where he belonged in the 224th overall pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick231
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
A slide stopped in No. 231, with Joey Aguilar worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick237
Rnd7
Tony Grimes
They paid sticker price for Tony Grimes in the 237th pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
