Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueA+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Bears let Hunter fall into their laps, and walked away with a D.

The board owed the Bears one, and it paid up: Lee Hunter, the No. 75 name on the board, sitting there at pick 239 like a gift left on the doorstep. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and quarterback still on the board. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Adding Byron Murphy II by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 David Bailey
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41 Rnd2 Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane in pick No. 41 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick42 Rnd2 Spencer Fano
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 42 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick57 Rnd2 Kayden McDonald
They robbed the room for Kayden McDonald here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick60 Rnd2 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at Round 2, Pick 28 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
Taking Sonny Styles in pick 89 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick91 Rnd3 Dillon Thieneman
They will replay Dillon Thieneman at the 91st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick110 Rnd4 Genesis Smith
A curious use of the 110th pick. Running back and quarterback needed the pick; a safety in Genesis Smith did not.
Pick129 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick164 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in No. 164 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick198 Rnd6 Logan Jones
Somehow Logan Jones was still sitting there in pick No. 198, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239 Rnd7 Lee Hunter
Steal is underselling it; Lee Hunter at the 239th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241 Rnd7 Tyreak Sapp
They barely believed it either: Tyreak Sapp still on the board at slot 241. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
