FutureF
The Patriots let Nussmeier fall and pounced. Final grade: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Garrett Nussmeier, the No. 50 name on the board, stolen at Round 7, Pick 30.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The veteran additions, Tristan Wirfs chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49
Rnd2
Mansoor Delane
Somehow Mansoor Delane was still sitting there in the 49th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick62
Rnd2
David Bailey
Circle this one: David Bailey at No. 62 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94
Rnd3
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick96
Rnd3
Kayden McDonald
Taking Kayden McDonald in slot 96 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jermod McCoy
They barely believed it either: Jermod McCoy still on the board at pick No. 125. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick130
Rnd4
Cashius Howell
Cashius Howell in the 130th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jordyn Tyson
Jordyn Tyson at pick 134 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick168
Rnd5
Sonny Styles
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jonah Coleman
A running back of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick189
Rnd6
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at the 189th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick200
Rnd6
Akheem Mesidor
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Akheem Mesidor in the 200th pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick207
Rnd6
Connor Lew
They will replay Connor Lew at slot 207 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick211
Rnd6
Charles Jagusah
Steal is underselling it; Charles Jagusah at pick 211 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick246
Rnd7
Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier in pick No. 246 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
