McCoy should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B. The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jermod McCoy fell into pick 226. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In slot 31 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Spencer Fano
Taking Spencer Fano in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick95
Rnd3
Carnell Tate
They barely believed it either: Carnell Tate still on the board at No. 95. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Mansoor Delane
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 25 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick131
Rnd4
David Bailey
The board fumbled David Bailey all the way to pick 131, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick169
Rnd5
Kamari Ramsey
Steal is underselling it; Kamari Ramsey at the 169th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189
Rnd6
Cashius Howell
Somehow Cashius Howell was still sitting there in pick No. 189, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick200
Rnd6
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq in the 200th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick207
Rnd6
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick210
Rnd6
Connor Lew
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Connor Lew in pick 210, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jordyn Tyson
Jordyn Tyson in Round 7, Pick 4 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jermod McCoy
Jermod McCoy at pick No. 226 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick228
Rnd7
Akheem Mesidor
You do not let an edge rusher like Akheem Mesidor reach slot 228 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick247
Rnd7
Ja'Kobi Lane
They robbed the room for Ja'Kobi Lane here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
