Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Dante Dowdell a full 57 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

However the rest shakes out, Slaughter at that price is a win they earned. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In the 30th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Steal is underselling it; Jake Slaughter at pick No. 62 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick83 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Keith Abney II at slot 83. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick129 Rnd4 Vincent Anthony Jr.
A big swing on Vincent Anthony Jr. at Round 4, Pick 29, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick130 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at pick 130 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick169 Rnd5 Gracen Halton
A reach for Gracen Halton in the 169th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick191 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in No. 191 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick201 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster in Round 6, Pick 20 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick206 Rnd6 Dante Dowdell
A real head-scratcher, Dante Dowdell in pick No. 206 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Amare Campbell
Amare Campbell in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick246 Rnd7 Brandon Inniss
Brandon Inniss at slot 246 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
