Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots let Ewers fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

When a board-topper like Quinn Ewers slides to pick No. 67, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They will need Webb to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Benjamin Morrison
Steal is underselling it; Benjamin Morrison at pick No. 35 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick49 Rnd2 Clay Webb
They left a pile of value on the table to take Clay Webb this early at No. 49. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick67 Rnd3 Quinn Ewers
Somehow Quinn Ewers was still sitting there in pick 67, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at slot 68 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick81 Rnd3 Tory Horton
The board fumbled Tory Horton all the way to the 81st overall pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99 Rnd4 Hunter Wohler
A reasonable price with a little left over, Hunter Wohler in the 99th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd4 Jason Marshall Jr.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jason Marshall Jr. at cornerback with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick131 Rnd5 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton is a better player than pick No. 131 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick195 Rnd7 Fentrell Cypress II
Nice patience on Fentrell Cypress II, who had no business lasting to the 195th pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
