Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Panthers for Phillips: B-.

Call it larceny. Jordan Phillips sat on the board until pick No. 140, and the Panthers did not need to be asked twice.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Walker reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
In the 8th overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57 Rnd2 Trey Amos
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trey Amos at Round 2, Pick 25. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
They read the board right and Jayden Higgins was the payoff at pick 74. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick111 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Smael Mondon Jr. at No. 111, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick114 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
No drama and no debate, Joshua Farmer went about where he belonged in the 114th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick140 Rnd5 Jordan Phillips
Somehow Jordan Phillips was still sitting there in slot 140, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish at pick No. 146 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163 Rnd5 Logan Brown
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Logan Brown at the Round 5 slot is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick230 Rnd7 Craig Woodson
Craig Woodson slipping to the 230th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
