FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Panthers this weekend: A-. The Panthers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They are betting Oladejo proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The Ayomanor value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, with Jalon Walker leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
No edge and no loss on Jalon Walker in the Round 1 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at Round 3, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
The board had Elic Ayomanor higher than No. 79, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick81
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A straight-up fair deal on Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 81, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
David Walker
David Walker at pick 89 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick111
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in the 111th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick114
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Fair-plus on Smael Mondon Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick119
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
A wild overpay on Oluwafemi Oladejo in slot 119, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick140
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A reach on Bhayshul Tuten in Round 5, Pick 2; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick146
Rnd5
Tyler Baron
They jumped the gun on Tyler Baron, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jake Briningstool
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jake Briningstool. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick193
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
No drama and no debate, Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson went about where he belonged in the 193rd pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick230
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III slipping to pick No. 230 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
Good price on Ja'Corey Brooks in No. 241, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
