FutureB-
Larceny in slot 158 lands the Packers a D, Allar and all. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Packers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him.
The Allar steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane slid further than he should have, and the Round 1 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick52
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker at No. 52 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Lee Hunter at Round 3, Pick 20 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick120
Rnd4
Logan Jones
Logan Jones in pick No. 120 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick158
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar in the 158th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick199
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Zuhn III. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd6
Dijon Johnson
They paid up for Dijon Johnson at the 209th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jack Velling
Nice patience on Jack Velling, who had no business lasting to slot 236. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254
Rnd7
Ja'Keem Jackson
No drama and no debate, Ja'Keem Jackson went about where he belonged in the 254th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick257
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
