FutureB
The phones sank the Packers this weekend: D-. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Packers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
The cost of the Foster reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Allar.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In pick 20 they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
The board had Anthony Hill Jr. higher than pick No. 52, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick84
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad slid further than he should have, and slot 84 is lovely value for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick112
Rnd4
Caden Curry
They read the board right and Caden Curry was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick120
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
They talked themselves into Max Iheanachor at Round 4, Pick 20, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick158
Rnd5
Drew Allar
You do not let a quarterback like Drew Allar reach the 158th overall pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bryce Foster
A real head-scratcher, Bryce Foster in No. 177 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick199
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 199th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jack Velling
A conviction pick on Jack Velling at the 215th pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick225
Rnd7
Ethan O'Connor
Ethan O'Connor in Round 7, Pick 9 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
They paid sticker price for Will Kacmarek in pick No. 236, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jamari Lyons
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jamari Lyons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick257
Rnd7
Ja'Keem Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Ja'Keem Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
