FutureA
The Browns kept it disciplined and banked a B-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Kamran James, 58 picks early at No. 204. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
On value alone, Sadiq makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Monroe Freeling
In the 28th pick they get a blindside protector, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
A reach on Gennings Dunker in pick 38; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at Round 2, Pick 7 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70
Rnd3
Trinidad Chambliss
They talked themselves into Trinidad Chambliss at the 70th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
No edge and no loss on Bryce Lance in pick No. 107; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ted Hurst. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick144
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at No. 144 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick158
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick204
Rnd6
Kamran James
They reached into another round for Kamran James, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick236
Rnd7
Trey Holly
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Holly at Round 7, Pick 20, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248
Rnd7
Micah Morris
They paid sticker price for Micah Morris in pick 248, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick254
Rnd7
Kendrick Law
Kendrick Law in slot 254 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick257
Rnd7
Duce Chestnut
Duce Chestnut at the 257th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
