Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA
The Commanders drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: A-.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

If Coleman pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

The Cooper steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In pick 6 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
A reach on Xavier Worthy in the 40th pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67 Rnd3 Max Melton
A conviction pick on Max Melton at pick No. 67 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick70 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
Taking Edgerrin Cooper in the 70th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick78 Rnd3 Austin Booker
No edge and no loss on Austin Booker in Round 3, Pick 14; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick100 Rnd3 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in No. 100 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139 Rnd5 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson is a better player than slot 139 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick152 Rnd5 Brandon Coleman
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brandon Coleman well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222 Rnd7 Myles Harden
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Myles Harden at the Round 7 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
