Draft Grade — Browns
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Browns, and a C+ to match.

Nobody else had Jaleel Skinner anywhere near slot 248. The Browns did, by 98 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.

On value alone, Lawson makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

So much rides on Cashius Howell that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Cashius Howell
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a premier pass rusher, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Romello Height
In pick No. 24 they get a problem off the edge, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyreak Sapp
They talked themselves into Tyreak Sapp at the 39th pick, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick70 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II in No. 70 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick107 Rnd4 DJ Harvey
A big swing on DJ Harvey at pick 107, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139 Rnd5 Deontae Lawson
Steal is underselling it; Deontae Lawson at the 139th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick144 Rnd5 Markel Bell
They barely believed it either: Markel Bell still on the board at No. 144. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford in Round 5, Pick 9 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick204 Rnd6 Duce Chestnut
Duce Chestnut at slot 204 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248 Rnd7 Jaleel Skinner
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaleel Skinner in pick No. 248, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
