Draft Grade — Bengals

The Bengals robbed the room for Hancock. Final grade: B-. The board owed the Bengals one, and it paid up: Jordan Hancock, the No. 216 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 31 like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
With interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick44
Rnd2
Princely Umanmielen
Nice patience on Princely Umanmielen, who had no business lasting to pick No. 44. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick58
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with JT Tuimoloau while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots sat open.
Pick76
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. at slot 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
You do not let an offensive lineman like Donovan Jackson reach pick 89 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick119
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
A quiet steal in No. 119: Lathan Ransom for less than the market said. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick153
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in the 153rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
They barely believed it either: Ajani Cornelius still on the board at Round 6, Pick 17. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick209
Rnd6
Addison West
They took Addison West at par in the 209th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick236
Rnd7
Ricky White III
A tidy bit of business in pick 236, where Ricky White III graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Kyle Monangai
They will replay Kyle Monangai at the 241st pick for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
They robbed the room for Jordan Hancock here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
