Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Jaguars: B-. The Alex Mastromanno pick is the one that will follow the Jaguars into the fall. They took him 69 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
That Briningstool pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
With wide receiver, linebacker and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on specialist is the choice that costs them. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
James Pearce Jr. in the 5th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick36
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 36 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick70
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A tidy bit of business in pick 70, where TreVeyon Henderson graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick88
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at Round 3, Pick 24 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick107
Rnd4
Andres Borregales
Of all the spots to shop, they chose specialist. Andres Borregales in the 107th pick leaves wide receiver, linebacker and other spots for later.
Pick126
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick142
Rnd5
Alex Mastromanno
A big swing on Alex Mastromanno at pick No. 142, well ahead of any board in the building. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick182
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
Value said wait; Howard Cross III in Round 6, Pick 6 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick221
Rnd7
Miles Frazier
A real head-scratcher, Miles Frazier in No. 221 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
