Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
D
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA
The Browns lost the trade table, and the D tells the story. The Browns treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 199 on Trey Holly a full 42 spots early. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In No. 18 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick19
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In the 19th pick they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at pick No. 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
No drama and no debate, Olaivavega Ioane went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
The board had Josiah Trotter higher than the 74th overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick84
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at pick 84 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick97
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
They robbed the room for Zakee Wheatley here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick107
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
They jumped the gun on Trinidad Chambliss, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick119
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis in No. 119 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. in the 139th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick146
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
No edge and no loss on Davison Igbinosun in the 146th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
A premium they did not need to pay, Aamil Wagner a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick156
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton in slot 156 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick199
Rnd6
Trey Holly
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Holly this early at pick No. 199. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick204
Rnd6
Haynes King
Haynes King in pick 204 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Luke Hasz
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke Hasz in Round 7, Pick 32. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
