Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Miller: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Christen Miller at the 169th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Lawrence to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at slot 31 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Arvell Reese
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Arvell Reese in the 63rd overall pick, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick95 Rnd3 Markel Bell
They paid sticker price for Markel Bell in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick125 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
They talked themselves into Malachi Lawrence at Round 4, Pick 25, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jermod McCoy
Jermod McCoy in the 131st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick169 Rnd5 Christen Miller
They will replay Christen Miller at pick No. 169 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick189 Rnd6 Eli Raridon
Taking Eli Raridon in pick 189 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick200 Rnd6 Treydan Stukes
Treydan Stukes at No. 200 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick207 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at Round 6, Pick 28 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick210 Rnd6 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at the 210th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jalen Catalon
Jalen Catalon in No. 247 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
