PiliNui DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B

The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Texans took Connor Colby at No. 166, roughly 20 spots before his name belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Johnson makes the weekend a net positive.
Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Princely Umanmielen
Princely Umanmielen in slot 25 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the running back. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Jack Bech in pick No. 79 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. is a better player than No. 89 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick166
Rnd5
Connor Colby
They talked themselves into Connor Colby at pick 166, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
