Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Jets a B-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Xavian Sorey Jr., 120 picks early at pick 240. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Landing Wheatley that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
Caleb Downs at No. 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at fair value. More want than need.
Pick35
Rnd2
Chris Bell
Chris Bell in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick45
Rnd2
Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
Kenyatta Jackson Jr. at the 45th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick105
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
You do not let a safety like Zakee Wheatley reach pick 105 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar in Round 5, Pick 37 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick178
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
They paid up for Oscar Delp at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick196
Rnd6
Josh Moten
They liked Josh Moten enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 196. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
They reached into another round for Bryce Foster, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick212
Rnd6
Riley Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: Riley Williams in pick 212, miles early. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick220
Rnd7
Rueben Owens II
Rueben Owens II in the 220th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick240
Rnd7
Xavian Sorey Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavian Sorey Jr.. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick255
Rnd7
Hykeem Williams
Hykeem Williams at pick No. 255 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick257
Rnd7
Brandon Inniss
A straight-up fair deal on Brandon Inniss at Round 7, Pick 41, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
