Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B+.

Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

The Goosby steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

With running back, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 2 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In slot 16 they get the heartbeat of the defense at fair value. More want than need.
Pick36 Rnd2 Makai Lemon
You do not let a wide receiver like Makai Lemon reach pick 36 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Sonny Styles in No. 67 leaves running back, tight end and other spots for later.
Pick102 Rnd4 Trevor Goosby
They will replay Trevor Goosby at the 102nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette at Round 4, Pick 17 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134 Rnd4 Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at the 134th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick182 Rnd6 Max Iheanachor
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Iheanachor at slot 182 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick185 Rnd6 CJ Daniels
They took CJ Daniels at par in the 185th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219 Rnd7 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Taking Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
