B DRAFTING FOR THECardinals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cardinals and Nelson: B. The Cardinals did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Malachi Nelson fell into the 195th pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Keenan III left real value on the table behind him.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Peter Woods
They did well to land Peter Woods in the Round 1 slot, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tim Keenan III
They paid a round early for Tim Keenan III in slot 49, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick81
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 17 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick117
Rnd4
Austin Romaine
Austin Romaine at No. 117 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick156
Rnd5
Antonio Kite
Good price on Antonio Kite in the 156th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick195
Rnd6
Malachi Nelson
They barely believed it either: Malachi Nelson still on the board at pick No. 195. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick230
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Nothing to complain about; Riley Mahlman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
