Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B
ValueB-

FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Vikings this weekend: B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Vikings reached some 44 spots for Raheem Anderson, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Taylor.
With quarterback and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In the 21st overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
Pick50
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in pick No. 50 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69
Rnd3
Bud Clark
No edge and no loss on Bud Clark in Round 3, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
They did well to land Sonny Styles in pick 85, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jeremiah Wilson
A surprising call. With quarterback and interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Jeremiah Wilson, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick118
Rnd4
Isaiah Nwokobia
Somehow Isaiah Nwokobia was still sitting there in the 118th pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Jack Endries at pick No. 121 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick157
Rnd5
Darius Taylor
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Darius Taylor in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick158
Rnd5
Dane Key
They took Dane Key at par in Round 5, Pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick173
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at slot 173 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick183
Rnd6
Kelby Collins
A real head-scratcher, Kelby Collins in pick 183 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jordan White
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan White a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick208
Rnd6
Marquis Johnson
Marquis Johnson at the 208th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick231
Rnd7
Raheem Anderson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Raheem Anderson this early at No. 231. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
