Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B+
ValueB

FutureB
The Vikings let Moss fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. The Vikings did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Miller Moss fell into slot 208.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Lee has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A slide stopped in the 40th pick, with Dillon Thieneman worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick50
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in No. 50 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick59
Rnd2
Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at the 59th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick64
Rnd2
Chandler Rivers
They paid sticker price for Chandler Rivers in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick68
Rnd3
Bud Clark
They took Bud Clark at par in pick 68, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick96
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. D'Angelo Ponds in slot 96 leaves interior defensive lineman for later.
Pick97
Rnd3
Cashius Howell
Cashius Howell slipping to pick No. 97 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick108
Rnd4
Amare Campbell
They read the board right and Amare Campbell was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 6. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick120
Rnd4
Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor in the 120th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick128
Rnd4
Luke Hasz
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke Hasz. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Dane Key
A quiet steal in pick No. 173: Dane Key for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick184
Rnd6
Kayin Lee
They jumped the gun on Kayin Lee, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick196
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in No. 196 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick208
Rnd6
Miller Moss
Miller Moss at Round 6, Pick 32 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222
Rnd7
Jeremiah Cobb
Jeremiah Cobb in slot 222 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick231
Rnd7
Marquis Johnson
Taking Marquis Johnson in the 231st overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
