Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall

FutureB-
The phones sank the Dolphins this weekend: D-. The rest of the league had time to spare on Eric O'Neill; the Dolphins did not wait, grabbing him 78 spots ahead at slot 181. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Dolphins indulged a want in Everette while a need in quarterback, running back and other spots stayed open.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Trigg.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In the 11th overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
A conviction pick on Akheem Mesidor at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick65
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
Fair-plus on Lee Hunter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick72
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
They will replay D'Angelo Ponds at pick No. 72 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in pick 75 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jake Golday
They barely believed it either: Jake Golday still on the board at the 82nd pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick87
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
They read the board right and Domonique Orange was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick90
Rnd3
Caden Curry
A reach for Caden Curry in Round 3, Pick 26; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Daylen Everette in pick No. 104 leaves quarterback, running back and other spots for later.
Pick110
Rnd4
Will Lee III
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, running back and other spots to take Will Lee III, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 111th pick on Jalon Kilgore with quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick141
Rnd5
Michael Trigg
You do not let a tight end like Michael Trigg reach the 141st overall pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick 149 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick181
Rnd6
Eric O'Neill
Eric O'Neill in slot 181 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick194
Rnd6
Toriano Pride Jr.
A reach on Toriano Pride Jr. in No. 194; the board had better options right there. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick227
Rnd7
Miles Kitselman
A clean, defensible pick in the 227th overall pick with a little surplus value in Miles Kitselman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
