FutureB-
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Raiders started one anyway for Jordan Hall, 67 picks ahead of schedule. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Everette at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
No edge and no loss on Fernando Mendoza in Round 1, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick36
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
The board had Caleb Banks higher than the Round 2 slot, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson slipping to the 67th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick117
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 117 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick119
Rnd4
Caden Curry
Value with a capital V on Caden Curry in slot 119, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at pick 134 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick153
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
No drama and no debate, Bryce Boettcher went about where he belonged in No. 153. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick174
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
A quiet steal in pick 174: Xavier Nwankpa for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jordan Hall
They talked themselves into Jordan Hall at pick No. 180, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick183
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at Round 6, Pick 4 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick198
Rnd6
Peyton Bowen
A reach for Peyton Bowen in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick219
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
A real head-scratcher, Roman Hemby in slot 219 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
A wild overpay on Will Kacmarek in the 220th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick235
Rnd7
London Humphreys
London Humphreys at the 235th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
