More right than wrong for the Broncos, and a B to prove it. The Broncos looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Collin Oliver at the 254th overall pick regardless, 37 picks early. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Gabriel at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Omarion Hampton
In No. 20 they get a three-down runner, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick51
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Booker at Round 2, Pick 19. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick97
Rnd3
Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at slot 97 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 122 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139
Rnd5
Dillon Gabriel
Dillon Gabriel slipping to pick No. 139 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick191
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 191st overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick197
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
A slide stopped in pick No. 197, with JJ Pegues worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick208
Rnd6
Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. at slot 208 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick248
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester in Round 7, Pick 32 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver at the 254th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
