Draft Grade — Colts

FutureA+
The Colts got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C. The Colts put a flag in the ground for Cody Lindenberg, 49 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Landing Martinez that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
If Tyler Warren and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup weapon at tight end, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
A quiet steal in the 69th pick: Demetrius Knight Jr. for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at Round 3, Pick 33 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. at the 104th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
They robbed the room for Jared Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
They did well to land Jeffrey Bassa in slot 128, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jonas Sanker
By-the-book stuff, Jonas Sanker at Round 4, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick141
Rnd5
Logan Brown
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Logan Brown. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick157
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
They barely believed it either: Tyler Shough still on the board at slot 157. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick161
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at No. 161 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick177
Rnd6
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez at the 177th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick178
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
They paid sticker price for Jack Nelson in the 178th pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick189
Rnd6
R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens in pick No. 189 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick192
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
Circle this one: DJ Giddens at pick 192 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick196
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Nothing to complain about; Clay Webb went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick202
Rnd6
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jamon Dumas-Johnson this early at pick 202. The roster fit checks out.
Pick207
Rnd6
Cody Lindenberg
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cody Lindenberg in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick209
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at the 209th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick228
Rnd7
CJ Dippre
CJ Dippre in No. 228 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick232
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson in the 232nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Brandon Adams
Value said wait; Brandon Adams in Round 7, Pick 23 says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
A big swing on Jalen Travis at pick No. 247, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick252
Rnd7
Marcus Yarns
No drama and no debate, Marcus Yarns went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 36. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
