FutureA+
Larceny in pick 185 lands the Dolphins a D+, Casey and all. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Dolphins did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Casey to cover a lot of smaller sins. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick43
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
They robbed the room for Kenyon Sadiq here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick57
Rnd2
Chris Johnson
Somehow Chris Johnson was still sitting there in pick No. 57, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick72
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
You do not let a safety like A.J. Haulcy reach No. 72 and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jake Golday
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 11, where Jake Golday graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick87
Rnd3
Connor Lew
They barely believed it either: Connor Lew still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick89
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter in slot 89 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick90
Rnd3
Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis at Round 3, Pick 26 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Max Klare
The board fumbled Max Klare all the way to pick 97, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111
Rnd4
Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier in pick No. 111 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at slot 123 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick145
Rnd5
Will Lee III
Circle this one: Will Lee III at the 145th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick149
Rnd5
Kaytron Allen
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Kaytron Allen for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick185
Rnd6
Kage Casey
Taking Kage Casey in No. 185 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick221
Rnd7
Dane Key
They read the board right and Dane Key was the payoff at the 221st overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at Round 7, Pick 11 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick239
Rnd7
Miller Moss
Miller Moss slid further than he should have, and pick 239 is lovely value for the quarterback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
