Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
D
ValueA-
NeedB-

FutureB+
The Dolphins robbed the room for Slaughter. Final grade: D. The phones were a trap the Dolphins kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. With quarterback and edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. Getting Slaughter where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In slot 22 they get a rangy last line of defense, outstanding value to boot.
Pick43
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
They read the board right and Brandon Cisse was the payoff at the 43rd overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
A surprising call. With quarterback and edge rusher still to address, they spent pick 75 on D'Angelo Ponds, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick86
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
They robbed the room for Omar Cooper Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in No. 87 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at Round 3, Pick 26 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick111
Rnd4
Darrell Jackson Jr.
A quiet steal in the 111th overall pick: Darrell Jackson Jr. for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick114
Rnd4
Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson in Round 4, Pick 14 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jack Endries
The board had Jack Endries higher than slot 123, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149
Rnd5
Eli Raridon
Steal is underselling it; Eli Raridon at the 149th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick150
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens at No. 150 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Pick177
Rnd5
Keagen Trost
The board fumbled Keagen Trost all the way to pick No. 177, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick202
Rnd6
Justin Jefferson
No drama and no debate, Justin Jefferson went about where he belonged in pick 202. It fills a real need, too.
Pick215
Rnd6
Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
