FutureA-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Dolphins and Hill Jr.: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Dolphins did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Getting Hill Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will answer for taking cornerback early while edge rusher went begging.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick45
Rnd2
Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson in pick 45 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick47
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They let Dillon Thieneman come to them and pounced at No. 47. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick60
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in Round 2, Pick 28 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
A surprising call. With edge rusher still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on D'Angelo Ponds, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick78
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in pick No. 78 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick83
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Omar Cooper Jr. in slot 83, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields at the 87th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
They will replay Jake Slaughter at pick No. 90 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick91
Rnd3
Anthony Hill Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Hill Jr. at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick114
Rnd4
Sam Roush
The board fumbled Sam Roush all the way to Round 4, Pick 14, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick115
Rnd4
Keionte Scott
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Keionte Scott in slot 115 leaves edge rusher for later.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaeden Roberts at the 149th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jude Bowry
Jude Bowry at No. 156 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick157
Rnd5
Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard slid further than he should have, and pick 157 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick166
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at pick No. 166 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick195
Rnd6
Kobe Baynes
Kobe Baynes in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick198
Rnd6
Josh Cameron
Value with a capital V on Josh Cameron in slot 198, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick231
Rnd7
Kaelon Black
They robbed the room for Kaelon Black here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
