Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B+
ValueA
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Raiders left with their quarterback, and a B+ to match. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Raiders watched Colton Hood slide 214 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick 2 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick28
Rnd1
Dante Moore
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Jeremiyah Love
The board fumbled Jeremiyah Love all the way to pick No. 36, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick49
Rnd2
Spencer Fano
Spencer Fano at slot 49 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jordyn Tyson
Jordyn Tyson in the 67th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick84
Rnd3
Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at No. 84 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jermod McCoy
Jermod McCoy in pick 102 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117
Rnd4
David Bailey
They barely believed it either: David Bailey still on the board at the 117th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick135
Rnd4
Mansoor Delane
You do not let a cornerback like Mansoor Delane reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick157
Rnd5
Austin Siereveld
Austin Siereveld at Round 5, Pick 18 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick159
Rnd5
Connor Lew
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 159 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick162
Rnd5
Chase Bisontis
Steal is underselling it; Chase Bisontis at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176
Rnd5
Parker Brailsford
Taking Parker Brailsford in the 176th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jaeden Roberts
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jaeden Roberts in slot 181, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick184
Rnd6
Jake Slaughter
They robbed the room for Jake Slaughter here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219
Rnd7
Taurean York
Somehow Taurean York was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 3, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick235
Rnd7
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in No. 235 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick236
Rnd7
Lander Barton
They will replay Lander Barton at the 236th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick244
Rnd7
Colton Hood
Circle this one: Colton Hood at Round 7, Pick 28 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
