Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

FutureC
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Lions to a D+. The Lions clearly saw something nobody else did in Jonah Monheim, taking him 57 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Spending an early pick on interior defensive lineman with edge rusher and safety open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Jackson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In No. 28 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at slot 40 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick58
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
No drama and no debate, Maxwell Hairston went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 26. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick79
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson slid further than he should have, and the 79th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Darius Alexander adds an interior defensive lineman and leaves edge rusher and safety untouched.
Pick102
Rnd3
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at pick 102 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jonah Monheim
Value said wait; Jonah Monheim in Round 4, Pick 17 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick153
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A straight-up fair deal on Bhayshul Tuten at pick 153, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick173
Rnd5
Luke Lachey
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke Lachey this early at No. 173. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick196
Rnd6
Cam Miller
Cam Miller at the 196th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick223
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at pick No. 223 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
