FutureA+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Browns a B. The Browns' one glaring miss is edge rusher, a need they left exactly as they found it. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The cost of the Hurst reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They banked enough surplus on Slaughter to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick26
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane in the 26th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick39
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
They paid up for Gennings Dunker at Round 2, Pick 7 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick60
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter slid further than he should have, and slot 60 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick70
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick 70 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick107
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss in the 107th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick129
Rnd4
Ted Hurst
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ted Hurst. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick139
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 139 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick147
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol in Round 5, Pick 9 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Pick204
Rnd6
Nolan Rucci
They took Nolan Rucci at par in the 204th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Ricardo Hallman
No edge and no loss on Ricardo Hallman in slot 239; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
No drama and no debate, Jordan Hall went about where he belonged in No. 248. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
