Draft Grade — Jets
Overall D+
ValueC NeedA- TradesF FutureB-
A passer of the future in Mendoza, and a D+, for the Jets.

Nobody else had Derrick Moore anywhere near Round 4, Pick 1. The Jets did, by 48 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Fernando Mendoza gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.

Hartford at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
No drama and no debate, Anthony Hill Jr. went about where he belonged in the 33rd overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick71 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
They took Michael Taaffe at par in the 71st pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick101 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
They reached a country mile for Derrick Moore at pick 101, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick140 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
A reach for DeMonte Capehart in No. 140; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick183 Rnd6 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart in pick No. 183 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick200 Rnd6 Aamil Wagner
The board fumbled Aamil Wagner all the way to Round 6, Pick 20, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick201 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
They paid sticker price for Raylen Wilson in pick No. 201, and that is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jalon Daniels
Circle this one: Jalon Daniels at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick256 Rnd7 Malik Hartford
A safety of that caliber at the 256th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick257 Rnd7 Elliot Washington II
By-the-book stuff, Elliot Washington II at the 257th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
