jmartell21 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. The tape said wait; the Steelers did not. Drew Allar went at the Round 3 slot, a good 47 picks before the board was ready. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. It is not that Siereveld is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. The Casey pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In the 20th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. A real need, handled.
Pick52
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Value with a capital V on Olaivavega Ioane in pick No. 52, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick77
Rnd3
Austin Siereveld
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 13. Safety, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Austin Siereveld did not.
Pick84
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick99
Rnd3
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at No. 99 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick120
Rnd4
Sammy Omosigho
Sammy Omosigho in slot 120 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick134
Rnd4
Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson at the 134th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick159
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey in pick 159 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick214
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in No. 214 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick215
Rnd6
Amare Campbell
By-the-book stuff, Amare Campbell at Round 6, Pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224
Rnd7
Daevin Hobbs
A reach for Daevin Hobbs in slot 224; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236
Rnd7
Brandon Inniss
Brandon Inniss at the 236th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
