Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Jets finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Ty Simpson is the Jets' quarterback, full stop. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The cost of the Kearney reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Hartford at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
Ty Simpson in pick No. 3 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick32 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In No. 32 they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35 Rnd2 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick46 Rnd2 Quincy Rhodes Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Quincy Rhodes Jr. at the 46th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick103 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
They paid a round early for Bryce Lance in Round 4, Pick 3, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick178 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
Bryce Boettcher at the 178th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick192 Rnd6 Roderick Kearney
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Roderick Kearney well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick205 Rnd6 James Smith
James Smith at pick 205 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick207 Rnd6 Daevin Hobbs
Daevin Hobbs in Round 6, Pick 28 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick239 Rnd7 Elliot Washington II
They reached a country mile for Elliot Washington II at pick No. 239, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick254 Rnd7 Dijon Johnson
A reach for Dijon Johnson in No. 254; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick255 Rnd7 Malik Hartford
Malik Hartford in slot 255 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
