FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Simpson in the fold, and a B for the Jets. The Jets did not so much draft Eric Gentry as overpay for him, 95 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
So much rides on Ty Simpson that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Williams steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In slot 5 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They paid sticker price for Anthony Hill Jr. in pick 35, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nyck Harbor
They liked Nyck Harbor enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 9. It fills a real need, too.
Pick78
Rnd3
Anthony Lucas
Anthony Lucas in pick No. 78 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick93
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Steal is underselling it; Antonio Williams at No. 93 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Akheem Mesidor
They talked themselves into Akheem Mesidor at the 105th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick137
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at Round 4, Pick 37 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick155
Rnd5
Drew Allar
They took Drew Allar at par in the 155th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick178
Rnd5
Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson at pick No. 178 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick189
Rnd6
Adepoju Adebawore
They left a pile of value on the table to take Adepoju Adebawore this early at the 189th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
A reasonable price with a little left over, DJ Campbell in No. 193. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick198
Rnd6
Kalil Alexander
They reached into another round for Kalil Alexander, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick207
Rnd6
Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick228
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
No drama and no debate, Trey Zuhn III went about where he belonged in pick 228. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick247
Rnd7
Malik Hartford
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 33: Malik Hartford for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick253
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at pick 253 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick254
Rnd7
Brandon Inniss
Brandon Inniss in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
