A franchise passer in Mendoza headlines a B- weekend for the Jets. The Jets clearly saw something nobody else did in Reid Carrico, taking him 120 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Landing Sadiq that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 10 they get a franchise quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick25
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the 25th overall pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick32
Rnd1
David Bailey
They took David Bailey at par in Round 1, Pick 32, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick44
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq in slot 44 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick59
Rnd2
Malik Muhammad
They paid sticker price for Malik Muhammad in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick105
Rnd4
Omar Cooper Jr.
Nice patience on Omar Cooper Jr., who had no business lasting to the 105th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at the 178th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick192
Rnd6
Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at No. 192 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick202
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Taylen Green at slot 202. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick208
Rnd6
Quinten Joyner
They liked Quinten Joyner enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 208. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick227
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at Round 7, Pick 13 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick237
Rnd7
Reid Carrico
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Reid Carrico. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick253
Rnd7
Peyton Bowen
Good price on Peyton Bowen in the 253rd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick254
Rnd7
Cayden Lee
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cayden Lee in the Round 7 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
