A franchise passer in Mendoza headlines a B weekend for the Jets. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Jets spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Every board in the league had Thompson lower, and that gap is the story. On value alone, Muhammad makes the weekend a net positive.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 4 they get the face of the franchise. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick18
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In No. 18 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at Round 2, Pick 19 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick79
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
They let A.J. Haulcy come to them and pounced at the 79th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick104
Rnd4
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad in slot 104 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick160
Rnd5
Kage Casey
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kage Casey. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott at the 194th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick203
Rnd6
Dane Key
Dane Key at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick212
Rnd6
DJ Harvey
DJ Harvey in Round 6, Pick 32 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick218
Rnd7
Amare Campbell
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Amare Campbell. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick239
Rnd7
Miller Moss
Miller Moss at No. 239 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick254
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh at the 254th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jalen Thompson
Jalen Thompson at slot 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
