FutureA
Nobody dealt better than the Jets this weekend: A-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Jets did exactly that with Jamari Lyons in slot 254. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Allar. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Jaylen Waddle pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Bottom line, with Jermod McCoy leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
They did well to land Jordyn Tyson in Round 1, Pick 19, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick32
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In pick 32 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
They paid sticker price for Kayden McDonald in slot 35, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick37
Rnd2
David Bailey
David Bailey in pick No. 37 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick44
Rnd2
Arch Manning
Arch Manning in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
The board had Jake Slaughter higher than the 46th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Zion Young
They reached a country mile for Zion Young at the 71st pick, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Caleb Tiernan
A slide stopped in slot 103, with Caleb Tiernan worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick107
Rnd4
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks slipping to No. 107 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick178
Rnd5
Drew Allar
A quarterback of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 38 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick192
Rnd6
Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia at the 192nd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Dane Key
A quiet steal in pick 205: Dane Key for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick207
Rnd6
Barion Brown
A real head-scratcher, Barion Brown in pick No. 207 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick239
Rnd7
PJ Williams
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for PJ Williams. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jamari Lyons
A wild overpay on Jamari Lyons in the 254th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick255
Rnd7
TJ Metcalf
TJ Metcalf in slot 255 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
